Dei Gratia Farm

Welcome to Dei Gratia Farm!

Mitchie started doing needlework at the age of 10. That first embroidery sampler was just the beginning. At age 12, she learned to knit and is proud to say that first knitted project won a blue ribbon at the State Fair of Texas. While living in northern Nevada in the early 80’s she was fortunate to have the opportunity to take a tapestry and a spinning class at a nearby community college. That ignited a passion for the fiber arts that continues to grow as she explores new possibilities and designs, as one is only limited by one’s imagination. For variety, she occasionally enjoys quilting, needlepoint and sewing.

Raised in Dallas, this Native Texan feels she is really a country girl at heart. Country living became a reality in the early 90’s, finally putting that degree in Range Science from Texas A&M to use. A part of the fiber passion now includes raising fiber producing animals: Angora goats, Angora rabbits and a spinner’s flock of mixed breed sheep, as well as miniature donkeys which guard the pastures.

Over years she has produced many projects that won ribbons in the State Fair of Texas, several county fairs, quilt shows and the Taos Wool Festival. For over 10 years the prize winning Angora rabbits added numerous ribbons and trophies to the collection.

Demonstrations are a fun way to share the fiber arts world with others. Mitchie has participated in numerous demonstrations at the State Fair of Texas, Hunt County Fair, numerous local festivals as well as rabbit shows while waiting for judging.

Her passion for the fiber arts extends to the décor of her vintage travel trailer, a 1965 Shasta Compact, affectionately named SABLE, Stash Accumulation Beyond Life Expectancy.

Mitchie has been a dispatcher for over 25 years, over 16 of those at an electric company keeping the lights on in the community. Her love for animals includes working with a local rescue organization which is why Dei Gratia Farm is also home to 10 dogs and 5 cats. Many wonder what does “Dei Gratia” mean. It’s Latin for “by the grace of God”.
